In today’s spotlight, I’d like to show you a great website that helps expose sex offenders in your local community. Familywatchdog.us is a useful tool that really brings nearby sex offenders to your attention (and your client’s attention as well).
Using the site is really simple. Simply plug in the address you’d like to search near; then you’re presented with a map of all sex offenders in your neighborhood on a nifty map. This map is hosted by Google maps, but I’m a little dissappointed that you can’t “click and drag” to move the map around like you normally do.
None the less, the information it presents to you and your clients is invaluable. What really surprised me is that you can click on a marker for a sex offender and a new window will open. In this new page you’re shown the details of the sex offender (even a picture!), plus information detailing the crime they committed.
You can rest assured that your clients NEED to see this information. Sure; it may deter a sale but your clients will be appreciative for looking out for their best interests.
I’m honestly surprised at how many registered sex offenders are in my subdivision; knowing their whereabouts surely helps me keep my family safe.

I have heard of this site before and I think it is a great service. People when they are shopping for a home are not only looking at the home they are also looking at the neighborhood as well.
Their surrounding environment is a vital role in buying a home. If you have kids and know that there is a child sex offender living nearby then that would dramatically change the decision making process.
Although a majority of neighborhoods may have a sex offender or several offenders, clients do need to know where they live.
Having sex offender addresses will allow Buyers to utilize caution and teach their children how to live in the neighborhood with this offender. It is good to teach children about sex offenders even if there is not any in the neighborhood. It is a part of today’s world
