Have you ever had an interest in working in a paperless environment? It’s quite a step away from conventional real estate work. We’re so used to printing contracts and fumbling through packets of listing presentations that it’s sort of how we do business now; the status quo.
It’s not a widespread phenomenon just yet, but actually converting your real estate business into a paperless environment is easily achievable. With software like PDF Annotator, the feat of intuitively writing on a PDF using your Tablet PC is not longer a chore.
The only draw back is that you’ll need someway to write on the document. I wouldn’t imagine you’d have your clients sign a contract with your mouse (shame on you if you’ve tried that!). Therefore, you’ll need to have one of the following in your arsenal:
- A Graphic Tablet - Simply a mouse-pad with the abilities to write on like a piece of paper. You simply plug it into your computer USB port, and you’ll have writing capabilities.
- A Tablet PC - Obviously the more expensive of the two, but prices are starting to decline as the technology becomes more and more accepted.
PDF Annotator
I’ll admit it; it’s fun to use PDF Annotator. It’s just like writing on a piece of paper, except that this piece of paper is on your computer. It doesn’t try to get involved with many other tasks like some other paperless software does. PDF Annotator is simply a product to let you easily, and intuitively write on your PDFs.
I really like how you can write on any document you can convert to a PDF. I used PDF Annotator for listing presentations, buyer showing tours, and of course, for signatures on contracts.
On June 30, 2000, Bill Clinton signed the e-signatures bill into a law, so you can rest assured that having your clients sign their contracts digitally is perfectly fine.
A Free Trial
I’m happy that Grahl Software decided to offer their software in a free trial version for you to play with before you actually buy it. The going price is pennies shy of $50, but it’s a one-time fee that you won’t regret.
For those of you that try out PDF Annotator, what did you think of it? Please post your thoughts and feedback as a comment below.

I’m one of those old soldiers that still feels comfort in paper. I don’t know if I’ll ever rid the need for killing the earths forest - but using a tablet for contract does sound geekishly exciting.

It actually really is, and consumers are “wow’d” by it. When I take my tablet PC to a listing appointment, and we get to signing contracts, 9 times out of 10 they’re in amazement at how neat it is.
It’s neat because you can mark up an entire presentation, and then take an eraser to it and wipe it clean. You can letter the seller get really interactive, and also use the same system to have them sign of on agreements.
