iPhone Updates to 3.0 – Copy/Paste, MMS, and More 2

Mar17

iPhone 3GToday, Apple had a conference summing up the upcoming changes to their iPhone operating system – dubbed version 3.0.  In this new update, you can look forward to a laundry list of features that were notoriously absent from the popular handset from Apple.

Among the long list of new features, the most popular in my opinion are:

MMS - You can finally send picture messages via text messaging.

Copy and Paste – I personally never thought this hindered me from using my iPhone , but when the update gets released I’ll probably wonder how I lived without it.

Push Notifications – Now you can get notifications from your applications even when that application isn’t open.  Apple promised this a while back and it never came through, so hopefully this time we’ll see it become a reality.

Google Maps API – Now developers can integrate Google Maps into their applications.  By far the most promising thing from this new feature is the possiblity of a developer creating an application that support turn by turn directions just like all other GPS systems out there.

Universal Search – The Palm Pre was noted to have this built in from day one, and I think Apple took notice.  They’re now featuring a new feature called, “Spotlight” that will allow you to search your entire phone for whatever you’d like.

There were quite a few more features listed, but the above are the most noteworthy in my opinion.  You can read the full list over at Engadget.
