Skype Launched for iPad … Not! [Updated]

In New Zealand, people were seeing this new release of Skype for the iPad pop up in the Apple app store. It features a nifty interface with video calling, so it will be limited only to the latest iPad generation with cameras.

Unfortunately, it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared. Skype has released a statement saying that it was released too early and that the whole thing was a mistake. What are they waiting for?

I personally use Skype to chat with clients and keep my iPad on a dock next to my monitor. Having a native Skype application next to me would be very useful, especially since you can send and receive actual phone calls from it (and have your own Skype-In phone number).

Thanks to Macrumors.com for the heads up.

Update: Nevermind! It looks like Skype has been released after all. I just did a search in the US app store and it came right up, and it’s free!
