In real estate, agents and brokers are constantly looking to get the most bang out of their advertising buck. The name of the game is to get your message in front of as many eyeballs as possible. Day after day real estate webmasters strive to break into another market that will add a new segment of users.
What if it were possible penetrate every market on earth? I’m not talking about Facebook, YouTube or Twitter. I am referring to a new advertising medium that has more page views than Google itself . . . the moon.
An inventor named David Kent Jones has plans to use lunar robots to turn the surface of the moon into a giant billboard. The idea is to use the robots to plow moon dust into furrows that will create shadows to form large advertising messages. The moon message has the potential to be seen by twelve billion eyeballs for several days (nights) each month.
The plan will be put into action by a Salt Lake City technology company called Moon Publicity. The company justifies the seemingly monetary driven plan by claiming to have a motive to inspire more space travel. MP admits it will be hard for people to swallow at first but insists that space travel is important due to “the inevitable extinction of the human species.”
The patent pending shaping technology will be available for 44 regions of the visible the moon. The exclusively transferable licensing was put out to bid last week on the anniversary of man’s first walk on the moon. Bidding starts at $46,000 and supposedly will run for three months with the winner being announced in the beginning of November.
While I believe space travel is one of the more interesting topics being discussed today, I think in this respect, they should leave the moon alone and refocus their attention back here on earth. Not to say we shouldn’t do more in the way of space exploration, it seems whoring out the moon for monetary gain is just plain stupid.
