Firefox 3 Launch A Gigantic Success

Guinness Book of World RecordsRyan Paul over at Arstechnica reported yesterday that the big campaign to have everyone download Firefox 3 was a resounding success.  Their goal was a mere 5 Million downloads.  The actual numbers hit were around 8, that’s EIGHT, million downloads of the awesome browser known as Firefox 3.

I was one of many who downloaded the browser and I’m certainly impressed.  Faster load times and session restoration (if you’re browser somehow closes then the pages you were on will usually come back) are a couple of the big changes that went into place.

In regards to making entry into the Guiness Book of World Records, Ryan had this to say:

I also asked Dotzler some questions about the process through which Mozilla’s download day statistics will enter the Guinness World Records. The server logs and download information will be given to an independent review board consisting of Corey Shields and Paul Vixie, which will then conduct a thorough audit, weed out duplicate and incomplete downloads, and determine an exact number. The download day event, which was orchestrated by Mozilla’s global marketing team, has been one of Mozilla’s most successful awareness campaigns to date.

Looks like time will tell; though server reports should be pretty concrete evidence that the record has been broken.  Great job to the Firefox 3 team!

If you’ve downloaded Firefox 3, what do you think?

Many have negative feedback regarding FF3. They say that there are many bugs that should be fix, but as far as I’m using it, It works well and fast.

I’m proud to have downloaded FF3 on Download day, I was using the release candidates for a while before and I love it. The awesome bar is weird when you first use it but once you use it for a while you cant live without it.

The tagging features of bookmarked websites/pages is rad! Finally a better way to organize my favorite webpages for future reference….I’m sure there’s more tricks for me to discover eventually.

Hope you write about some of the new features of FF we should be aware of!

Although I have downloaded it but it is not as superb as it should be. It responds slowly and have slowed down my internet DSL. I am wondering that If i am alone or anyone else has this problem with it? It worked with all me extensions though.

New Age, I think your system has something wrong because i have never heard any of such problems with that till now. I am pleased and happy to have Firefox as my browsing tool because it is too good to use.

New Firefox is not compatible with many of my previous version’s extensions. Am I alone who would have to tolerate or there are other people who are suffering?
I have no issue with speed or performance though.

I’m totally addicted to Firefox! When I read there’s a new version, I downloaded it and tried it. Until now, I’m enjoying the new Firefox.
