PDF Annotator 2 Released

By Steve Castaneda on June 12, 2008 in Tools - 17 Comments

PDF Annotator 2One of the ways you can sign contracts using your Tablet PC is using a piece of software named PDF Annotator.  I’ve personally used this to have my clients sign contracts to buy and sell real estate, so give it a shot!

You don’t need to have a tablet PC per say, but a tablet component to your computer is a necessity.  Here is a selection of writing components you can attach to any laptop to enable the ability to digitally sign your contracts.

I love it when developers keep their products fresh and up to date, and PDF Annotator 2 comes with a bunch of nifty new features.

  • Page Manager
  • Toolbox
  • Stamps
  • Bookmark Manager
  • Auto-Smooth (smooths out hand drawn lines to be perfect)
  • Enhanced Full Screen Mode
  • Enhanced Text Search
  • Continuous View
  • Pan Mode
  • Page Navigation
  • Enhanced Menu/Toolbars
  • Enhanced Text Box Styles
  • Enhanced Rendering Engine

Existing users can purchase a single license update for $34.95, but new users will have to pay the standard $69.95.

Update: PDF Annotator does not currently support Apple products.

That looks like a cool tool. How long have you been using the product? and does it work in the Apple environment? Looking to switching over for my next laptop.

When I was doing day to day real estate, I say my experience with it was for about 6 months. It was a great tool. The only problem I saw was that the annotations on each PDF was done via layers, and as you may know, layers can be easily turned off.

This is more of a security thing, as I didn’t want my clients signatures being removed by anyone. What I did as a solution was to have my clients sign like normal, then print to PDF using free tools such as CutePDF.

In regards to it being Apple compatible; great question! I don’t know the answer but I just fired off an email to their support department and will let you know what they say.

I could have contacted support, just thought you might already know. Didn’t mean for you to have to do research to answer my question, but thanks for your efforts.

It’s not a problem at all! I’m sure others would have the same question, so I’m happy to do the research and post it here.

Looks like the answer is a No, for Apple products. Quote from Oliver Grahl:

“PDF Annotator does not support the Mac, I’m sorry.”

Thanks for looking into it. Still not 100% sold on changing over to Apple. Just want to make sure to replace the current laptop before it dies as it makes life much easier.

I’m seriously considering going with a tablet pc and a plug in portable printer. I love working with buyers and it would be so much easier to write offers on the spot.

I’m a big fan of IBM Thinkpads. Do you have any experience with their tablet pc’s?

    Thanks,

Plugin portable is not extremely reliable. i have used one, its lifespan is too small. try to get the new hpc, it has an integrated printer. it is stylish good and reliable and professional

Great find Steve, I need to check it out.

I never took the step to a tablet pc. It might be worth revisiting the option.

Very cool, this would make the sales process that much more quick. It’s amazing how technology has made our lives so much easier.

This is a great solution! I get tired of faxing copies so many times that the black starts to run together when you are making several counter offers.

How does the signature look when you print out the document? I ask because credit card touch screens don’t look so great.

@Charlotte Real Estate: It looks great, actually. The software and technology that goes into Tablet PCs is far better (and I mean far better) than any credit card screens you see at major stores.

The resolution is quite high, and I’m confident that you’d be impressed. :)

Perhaps new technology is going to change everything. It is more cool for me than someone goes to Moon because it is very beneficial for me. Thanks for sharing.

I hope it can support plugins so I can use dictionary software in it, just as adobe pdf reader.
